As far as DTV action/crime thrillers go, this one is pretty good. Anything with Frank Grillo gets the benefit of the doubt, and they threw in Bruce Willis too, because they all go DTV eventually.

Jacob (Frank Grillo) is a family-man banker who gets traumatized after a heist. Should he have tried harder to stop the robber? What could his sorry ass do anyway? Enter James (Bruce Willis), ex-cop neighbor with the resources to help Jacob's unofficial investigation into the whereabouts of this dick... Continue »

It's been about 15 years since I watched it, and since my stupid obsessive brain never stops thinking about these movies AND it is a documentary challenge, I revisited this. What's so interesting is to see how different the franchise was at that point. The series is now about twice as old as it was when that "comprehensive" retrospective was at the time. You had interviews with Rob Zombie about his thoughts on the franchise, and this was before he made his two movies.

One part I find p... Continue »

image A biopic of the guys who created the first smartphone. Jay Baruchel is the nerd who comes up with the idea, and Glenn Howerton is the bald businessman who makes it happen. There's still a lot of Dennis in his character, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

The era is late 90s to late 2000s, which is when I was completely in the dark about cell phones. I didn't get my first phone till around 2014, so this movie was informative on how p... Continue »

First of all, this is a book, not a movie. It's by the late great Philip K. Dick. Of course, sooner or later it could BECOME a movie, as so many of his stories have. We shall see.

I am reading it right now. I'm about two thirds of the way through it. I just wanted to check in here and mention that I am wondering if it could have been, in some demented way, the inspiration for Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne character...?

I probably had that idea partly because the main character's name is Ja... Continue »

Michael (Kurt Russell) and Karen (Madeleine Stowe) live in a nice suburban home in LA, until an encounter with an intruder gets them all hot and bothered about home security. Enter Pete (Ray Liotta), the helpful police officer answering the call. He's so helpful, he gets a team to install security on the whole house. Yeah, there's not much he wouldn't do for Karen. Now, if only that asshole Michael wasn't in the picture...

A pretty good 90s thriller. You can't hate this movie because of the cas... Continue »

Hayley (Ellen Page) lures suspected pedo Jeff (Patrick Wilson) into a trap. She wants to make him confess, but she also wants to fuck with him emotionally and ruin his life.

Sounds like a cool movie, right? However, I still ended up hating Hayley more than Jeff. I wish the bad guy got away in this one. Well, I guess he did.

I'm watching The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and seeing this guy there who looks like the main guy, So I go hmmm are they related in real life so look on IMDB oh yes they are brothers.
The thing is in the film they are not related, I suspect IRL the guy is like brother can you get me a job to help pay the bills.
FFS yes sure help your brother out and get him a role, but make it a film where he plays a relation of some sort, not some stranger, otherwise you have idiots like me going, hmm... Continue »

Accident Man

Feb 11
This is part of the recent wave of assassin-sploitation movies where everyone is an expert hitman. Based on a UK comic. Accident Man is one who makes his kills look like accidents. You can't blame someone if a tub falls on the guy, right?

Scott Adkins is a name I've been hearing more of lately. He's one of those physical actors notable for fight choreography, and as one might have guessed... these are some pretty good fight scenes. I mean, that's what we're watching these movies for, right? And is that movies, plural? Continue »

This thread is dedicated to my delusional, far left Facebook friend, Kevin Vanhentenryck, and his intense hatred towards our President, as well as his constant hypocrisy and spreading of obvious lies in an attempt to convince anyone who will listen that right ALWAYS = wrong. The amount of memes this guy posts, and his apparent quest to change the world through Facebook, makes me laugh. So, I'm going to share just a small fraction... Continue »

OK, first of all, there will be some spoilers here, but maybe I should just assume that many of us have already seen this? It came out in 2018. I don't know.

Anyway, yah. This movie is... interesting, but not even CLOSE to what you might expect, from the title. It is mostly very slow-paced, and thoughtful, and sort of haunting. The great Sam Elliott plays Calvin Barr, an aging former WWII soldier (the film is set in 1987) who spends a lot of time alone with his memories of his life. Some... Continue »

Social media originated from message boards, but it's changed a lot over time. That includes markup and the way people format stuff. I'm considering ways to catch up to modern expectations, particularly regarding links, urls, images, and videos.

What I'm hoping to do is make it so when you type a link, it auto-converts to a link. If you post an image (file that ends with .gif, .jpg, .png, .webp), it auto-converts to an image. If you post a youtube link, it auto-converts to a youtube embed. No... Continue »

A week ago, I got a free trial of AppleTV+ because my mom really wanted to watch Killers of the Flower Moon because she loved the book. The movie was okay, but she liked it enough. Purpose fulfilled.

A couple of days later, I figured I'd catch up on Mythic Quest seasons 2 onward. You must sign in to watch this.

I couldn't sign in all week on any device, then I spent an hour with customer service chats and phone calls trying to cancel an account that no longer exists, but the... Continue »

It's a lazy Sunday morn and I'm bored AF. Figured I'd throw this up.

Hot Fuzz 2007
Tropic Thunder 2008
Goon 2011

HMs
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil 2010
Step Brothers 2007

Sound off or fnck off!

Apparently, The Shining is a holocaust metaphor about how the moon landing was fake. It sure sounds like these people are overanalyzing the movie, picking apart every scene as if every atom in the frame is a deliberate work of art. Maybe this movie really is chock full of symbolism. Yeah, and maybe I'm a Chinese jet pilot.

I saw this recently. I basically can't say anything about it. I am glad I saw it though! It stars Vincent Cassel and Kristen Stewart (who really does a perfectly solid job here, so cut her some slack). I would say don't google it, or try to learn anything about it beforehand, and just watch it. I think you'll be glad you did.

You guys, this is really interesting. I think I must have missed it when it was in the news, this feels like NEW news to me. Like, I don't think I knew about it until today.

I'm not saying Thor Heyerdahl was right about everything. In fact, I AM saying that he was definitely wrong about shitloads of things. But, it looks like he was right about this.

Here is the article. I hope it's clickable.

You guys, I just saw this in a used bookstore today. It's about the significance of the city of Chicago to the sum total of what the United States became, to itself and to the world, during the early and mid-20th century.

I wanted to put it here in a particular old thread, but I can't find it. It could be a year or two old... I don't know. The thread had something to do with the way New York City and Los Angeles dominate the national scene t... Continue »

Has anybody here read this? I just finished it yesterday, and want to talk about it a little. It's very short, but it took me three or four days anyway, just because I kept getting distracted.

Spoilers coming up. Go somewhere else if you don't want to read them.

I think the story was some kind of Creepypasta or Reddit thread that evolved over time, or was built incrementally somehow. I'm seing people say different things online, about that, soooo I'm still sorting it out.

Free Guy

by Tommix

Jan 21
Any big fans of Free Guy here? I am right in the middle of watching it for the first time. I had vaguely heard about it when they were filming it in Boston, but this is the first time I've seen it.

So far, my verdict is.... not bad at all. They make a huge deal about sunglasses being the key to a realm of higher awareness, which is clearly borrowed at least a little from They Live. But the overall plot, at least so far reminds me mostly of the "Everything is Awesome" scene from The Lego M... Continue »

Jan 10
The trailer for the movie looked terribly underwhelming. They wanted to market this as a straight-up horror film, but if you think about it, the original Exorcist was more of a psychological drama for most of the movie. This movie goes for that approach too, meaning that its trailer isn't showing you the movie you end up getting.

What you get is actually a pretty simple story. Two young girls go missing, and their respective families experience some bizarre shenanigans. It takes the legacy se... Continue »
