Original
Halloween (2018)
Halloween Kills
Halloween Ends
Halloween 3
Halloween H2o
Halloween 2
Halloween 4
Halloween 5
Resurrection
Halloween 6

Are we not counting the Rob Zombie movies? I think the only one I haven't seen is 6 but maybe I will try to force myself to see it this month. Anyway they're not all fresh in my mind either...

Yeah, I consider the RZ movies to be part of an entirely different series. I think people only started lumping remakes in with the originals cuz they became so common.

I'd advise against ever watching part 6, but if you want to be able to say you've seen the entire series, I guess there's no way around it. Paul Rudd's acting is pretty funny.

I had to think on this one. It's hard to balance the nostalgia vs. the actual merit of the movie, but when it gets down to it...

H1 '78
H '18

The original is a classic. Nothing can beat it. The 2018 has a great setup and it feels right. Then...

H2 '81
H3
HK

H2 for the longest time was the only appropriate sequel. Even in this new continuity, it's hard to disregard because it had all the key ingredients. H3 is the love it or hate it entry, and I love it. Probably a lot of nostalgia going for it too, but it fascinates me. HK is the ultimate Myers rampage, and then it gets a bit weird...

H4
HEnds
H5

H4 was a fun 80s horror take on Michael with some good atmosphere, even if it ends up way cheesier than scary. HEnds is another bastard stepchild you need to love or hate, and I can understand that it's not what people expected. Honestly, they were going to hate it no matter how it ended up, so for being the inevitably inferior abomination that it is, I thought it was an interesting movie. Like H4, H5 retains the cheese, but adds a dash more weirdness. Oh fuck, the lid came off and all the weird fell out...

H20
H6
H8
RZ H1
RZ H2

H20 is decent, but there's a lot of things wrong with it. H6 is a convoluted flashy mess with a fat Michael, H8 is demeaning with a mean-looking Michael killing nobody important, and RZ is... something else.

Glad to see more love for HK. I've read that after seeing Ends, some people eased their criticisms of HK because it's much more of a traditional Halloween flick than Ends. I am curious about where you'll rank it, so hop to it.

I am saving it for Halloween night. Everything I have heard about it makes me think I will like it. I love how each movie has a different tone and style. Kills was like the Aliens of Halloween. Not necessarily as good as Aliens but in the way where it turns Halloween into an action horror like Aliens did to Alien. I like variety in a series.

Then you'll definitely get variety with Ends. It's an exploration of Haddonfield with a very alternative narrative approach. People complain about the lack of and/or depiction of Myers, but I really liked that we took some time away from his mindless killing and put him in other situations. Even though he's not in much, I still enjoyed his part immensely.

I mostly like HK. I was really surprised by a few of the kills at the end. I felt like the overall idea of the lynch mob was this recent trilogy of films' little homage to parts of H4, meaning Earl and his buddies/patrons from his bar and their attempts at vigilante justice.... they kept saying that these new films would just pick up where H2 left off, and pay no attention to any of the sequels, but of course there were a whole bunch of little nods, tributes, homages, etc to most of them.

Troma, you've got me thinking about this, but it's hard to commit to a ranking! I'm having a hard time. Definitely Resurrection and 6 are toward the back of the pack, with 5 not too far ahead of them. I feel bad saying that because I like some things about all those movies (except Resurrection, probably)... Danielle Harris did her job well in 5, but it was just so miserable watching her do her silent scream thing, it just wasn't enjoyable to watch.

Anyway, the original absolutely deserves the top place. The first time anyone hears that music is like a watershed moment in their life, and suddenly they know if they are a horror fan or not. You're either like "Yeah! This is what I want! More of this please!" or "Nopenopenopenopenope, not for me."

I might put H4 a little higher than you did. I felt like they did a really respectable job on that one, and I think making Haddonfield more rural then suburban was a pretty cool idea.

H3 is so hard to place in this continuum. It's just a totally different movie, so much more sci-fi and even dark fantasy than any of the other movies. I like it a lot though, maybe even as much as the original, but it's just so different it's hard to know how to rank it. In that way it's sort of like the Jason X of the H franchise.

I have seen H Ends, and of course H 2018 and H Kills. They are all respectable, and of course John Carpenter can do whatever the hell he wants, but still, part of me was like "Wait, WHAT?!?!?" when I realized the whole H Ends movie was basically the story of that Corey guy. Like, where did that come from?!?

Anyway, yah. I like this type of thread, but I'm just having a hard time with it. I just thought I'd at least share some of my thoughts.

its only the order in the middle where we differ

Watched ~70% of Halloween ends, last night, solid 6/10 so far. Though I sense a weak obvious twist that Ive seen in a lot of films, hopefully Im wrong though

EDIT: Yep the twist was exactly how I thought< I was gonna duduct a point but hell I won't still the 2nd best halloween film
