Of their recent stuff I like A Matter of Life and Death best
TOP tier = The Number of the Beast
Next = Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Then = Iron Maiden, Killers, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time

Yeah thats a good album also, esp after the blaze albums before it. Not knocking the guy, its just the songs on the albums were shit.

Just listening first album, beautiful, what a way to announce yourself to the world.
Dualing melodic guitars, galloping bass, its all there.
Running Free used to be one of my favorite songs as a kid. Shades of thin lizzy

I would argue and justice for all was crap also. Even at the time I didnt really like it.
Still went and saw them when they came to NZ on that tour though (I regret that concert though, fucked my hearing)

I've been listening to (and liking) Vic Chesnutt, Dirty Three, Unwound

Gave all 3 albums from Galaxie 500 another spin the other day, great apart from the fact they wrote the same song over and over, just changed the words. Its hilarious they done it on one album, but for them to do it 3 albums is a masterstroke

https://www.stereogum.com/1675671/the-10-best-galaxie-500-songs/lists/

I'm not the only one to pick up on this, the reviewer doesnt mention its the same strum pattern as well as the same chords. emoticon

Over three albums, three years, and five chords, Galaxie 500โ€™s sound remained more or less the same, with little variation on a very simple formula; listening chronologically to the bandโ€™s three albums in one sitting is like experiencing one long, two-hour medley. Of the nine songs on Today, only two do not use some variation on the G-D-C chord progression (and one of those is a cover). Itโ€™s been said that if you canโ€™t play every Galaxie 500 song after two guitar lessons, you might want to get yourself checked for a concussion. But Galaxie 500 are perhaps the only band for whom the term โ€˜monochromaticโ€™ can be applied positively; no band has ever so totally encompassed the entire perceptible spectrum of blue.

RANT: One of my 3 bands I would most like to see will play in barcelona in a couple of weeks. Godspeed You!Black Emperor. But they're only taking part in a festival.
Fuck that cause

#A tickets are more expensive and

#B The bands set is usually shorter

I actually prefer Silver Mt Zion (Efrim has a great voice) but its doubtful if they will tour again, since its been 8 years since their last show/album

nah mate, truly good, I listened to them last night a few albums. His voice is strikes me similar to roger waters/dylan/frank black etc whilst not classically good, just an emotionally powerfully talent that to me reaches the heart more authentically than some voices I loath eg like Mikael ร…kerfeldt(opeth) or perry farrell . Both in bands that make good music but fuck the lame ass weak voices, do fucken cartoons or something,

WRT perry farrell I was reading an article a few years ago where he was going on about his 'talent' and how he goes on about how he lecturers other singers how to sing good.
It was not comedy writin he was serious. Personally I would of saved the students some cash and just said , take heroin get constipated then do your vocals like your trying to squeeze a week old solid dry chocolate bar out your ass, you know the kind that just wont slide out, with razor blades to get the squeals just right

Myself atm listening to richard hell.

EDIT: - looked up Tim smith died 2.5 years ago, fuck it feels so recent, scary how fast time is passing

yeah thats one of their better albums (you can hear the influence of steve wilson heavily). I'll give a listen to all their albums tomorrow. IIRC blackwater park may be my fav but I could be wrong. I'll find out tomorrow (been a few year since I listened)

Listen to the singer or Isis, you have to admit he does a far better job with the vocals (esp the singing style) I'll listen to all their albums now (not sure which I think is their best)
one of these 3

Isis - In the absence of Truth

Isis - Oceanic
Isis - Wavering Radient

edit: Oh thats right the drummer likes hitting the snare with force, haha

OK been listening to opeth today (though not gonna finish the whole ouvre cause I had to finish something else beforehand)
but fuck I did not hear thei most recent 5 albums at all, ever.
Ha I would of said I knew all their albums very well.
Actually from a first listen the most recent from2019, here he sings the best, I had to google did they get someone else to sing in this album I was so shocked.
Actually from 1 listen that album is quite good, the other 4 (though early listen not so good)

btw I hate the term ouvre, sounds like taking a turddump

godshead lament - Brilliant song, but the singing is so fucking bad, la de da (taking my way to the limit, la de dah)

oooh oh oh, la de dah

EDIT FUCKEN STOP THE PRESS (ok Im still listening to opeth, and here is the proof)
my arms, your hearse (iron maids) holy fuck there is zero ompth, the singing is as lame as could be put on tape, no idea hwy this guy sings so bad.
In 2019 he finally started to sing good, it only took 13 (or so) albums

well the fucking cover is not even accurate, unless they moved the mona to somewhere else and then set fire to it, after first changing its frame.
