... IF I remember to post in it!

Anyway, this week's Derby news:

2-year old champ Classic Empire is nursing a foot abscess and will miss his next prep race: https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/219939/classic-empire-out-of-fountain-of-youth

Pletcher-trained One Liner just rocked home in the SW Stakes with a 102 speed fig (highest of the potential Derby horses this year). He earned 10 points for his victory: https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/219961/one-liner-laughs-last-in-southwest-stakes-victory

What's a Derby post without a mint julep?

An old friend once offered to buy a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle and have a tasting if I would change my race plans and run a 50K with him. He failed to come through (he did try - despite the pricetag on those they are actually very hard to come by) but he did throw a big bourbon tasting party with about 30 open bottles of different brands. I drank at least a Pappy Van Winkle's worth.

Anyway, the whole reason I'm telling this story is after discovering that something like Pappy Van Winkle even existed I also discovered that there's a market out there just for the empty bottles. Yep, the empties go for more than I could or would pay for a bottle of really tasty single malt. Insane! I'm not sure if people want them for collecting, bragging rights or to rip off the unsuspecting.

Hope your Woodford Reserve appreciates nicely - you know it's always worth drinking anyway.

I've talked to a couple of the local liquor store managers about it and they both said they have a standing order for it - and a waiting list of customers who want it. They might get in 2-3 bottles a year and it sells in the first day. At those prices - $800 for the 12 year and the prices sore for additional aging. Sigh, I'm in the wrong profession.

You should move to Oregon peeps - the weed is first class. There's probably even designer skunk!

"Greetings, my friend. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future. You are interested in the unknown, the mysterious, the unexplainable. That is why you are here. "

Plus, it snows a lot less in Oregon than that winter wasteland wherever you are!

Maybe it fell off the Bandit's truck. Nah, that would be the 70's.

I think there had to be a Bandit II because the elephant drank all the Coors from Bandit I.
