Ballz picked to of my favorites right off the bat with Faith No More and Primus. Motorhead, Goblin, Alice Cooper, Ozzy, Pantera, and Megadeth are all cool with me too, and there's nothing I can say I flat out disliked.

With Markus, I can endorse Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, Nick Cave, Enslaved, Rush, Blondie, and Cream. It's really hurt by Radiohead, Bjork, and Jean Michel Jarre though.

So my vote goes to Ballz.

You like Enslaved, Symphony X, Porcupine Tree and Ghost but you're not big on Opeth - I don't get that.

My cousin gave me a copy of Blackwater Park a few years ago, and I only listened to it once. Every song had parts I really liked, but the metalcore sounding clean vocal/acoustic parts irritated the hell out of me. I'm really not a Mastodon fan either.

It's a pity you only gave them the one chance really. I remember having similar issues when I first discovered them, but I grew to appreciate the sudden changes in mood/tone and they really are quite effective once you get used to them. Hope you give them another chance some day.

Bands I don't like will get a strike through them, I dont do negative points just because I don't like your tastes. Then I assign points 1-5 to the remaining and after that the most points win. This will also help me keep my choices easy in future rounds.

It pains me to go against Markus, not because he's the host or anything and came up with this great idea, but because he's got many of my favorites: Depeche Mode, NIN, the Cure, Enslaved, Blondie, plus a few others I like and respect the hell out of: Bjork, Kate Bush, Neil Young and PJ Harvey, and King Crimson, namely.

But I think Ballz has a taste overall just suited more to my style. And I LOVE that he saved his favorite band for last, as a sorta surprise inclusion, especially since My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult just generally seems to be an out-there choice. Not something I expected, at all.

Alice Cooper AND The Cars? Uh oh! Shit just got real! Goblin, Ozzy, Pantera, Dokken, and Megadeth are pretty cool too.

I don't mind Depeche, NIN, Rush, and Blondie. Some Radiohead is awesome, and some is awful. A mixed bag...

I choose my @ballz

markus has a few picks I like a lot: Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, and King Crimson. I'm not too familiar with them, but I also like what I've heard from Neil Young, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Rush, and Blondie.

You have one of the stronger lists for me, so it was kind of unfortunate to be drawn against you emoticon. From your list I like: Faith No More, Tool, Motorhead, Alice Cooper, Rammstein, Ozzy and Megadeth. I think I need to check out more Lamb of God, The Mars Volta, and Goblin. Not big on Pantera although I always enjoy their cover of Planet Caravan. It's good that you picked some electronic stuff to mix it up too.

Have you tried to listening to Opeth?

I've heard some Opeth before. They aren't bad, just not a band I've ever looked much into. Any recs beyond what you linked on the draft thread?

Getting into Opeth definitely requires a degree of patience and persistence. It took me, and I think Troma, a while to. Here are 3 more to start, which gives you a fairly broad idea. If you don't really like any of them, then yeah, maybe Opeth is not for you.

Starts off jazzy and slow, but changes to hard rock at 04:25:

If you don't mind the growling this has more memorable riffs in one song, than entire metal albums I've heard:

youtube

This one would probably annoy the fuck out of Znep because of it's constant chopping and changing between heavy and light, but it's probably my favourite because of it's super complex song structure. This is "proper" prog:

These songs are taken from their best 3 albums respectively: Still Life, Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries. Let me know if you dig any of them emoticon.
