Interesting idea. I'm not sure how it'll play out, especially if people don't listen to and/or "get" the kind of music being presented, but I'm thinking in a limited capacity, this might work. What I mean is that people aren't going to want to listen to too many different things (who's got free time, in this day and age?), but maybe having to pick less stuff that movies might be easier.

Not like we're doing much else at the moment, so I'm open-minded to it. We'll see what others have to say about it.

Well when it comes to the vote, and it's difficult to decide because you are not familiar with the artists, you would just YouTube a track, try to listen to the whole thing and decide if it is something you might normally like or not. Also if someone goes for a list of predominantly black/doom metal bands and another goes for punk, you decide which of the genres you prefer more or dislike least if neither are your cup of tea.

I think it would be great if we went by a list of best songs. That way if people wanted to pick the same artists as someone else they could.

I am not sure exactly how that would work. I think maybe it's better if people went for their favourite individual artists/bands, as opposed to a list of songs, because would you yourself not end up with a list of mostly David Bowie songs? If not everyone here was a big fan of David Bowie, how would you get the vote? And because there are so many "best songs", the chances of losing out on your favourite band/artist cannot really happen, which to me would make the point of the draft a little, well, pointless? Or maybe I have misunderstood you and you could explain that a little more?

I guess I just thought it would be easier that way. I'm not someone who downloads or often listens to full albums. I explore all songs on albums I buy, but I only download single songs that I really like.

I listen to much more than Bowie, he just happens to be my favorite.

Well I think I see what you are saying there but I guess every participant would just try to make a list of 10-15 of their favourite artists, and when it comes to voting it's just a case of deciding whose music taste you prefer and if you don't really like either or are not familair with most of the choices, you could Youtube their "best" tracks and decide if it's something you would enjoy or not. If you think you would enjoy hardly anything from either list, then vote for the list you think you dislike the least or even abstain.

For me personally I enjoy a wide variety of genres/bands but I know what I like and don't like so I don't think voting would be an issue, but some of us will only prefer a certain genre so it makes it harder when voting others for sure..

Anyway let's see what others think first..

If someone picks a bunch of songs from only one artist/band, sounds like they wouldn't have a very good list, which would be their own fault and ultimately someone elses lucky break.

I was totally under the impression this would be a thing where we pick individual songs. I'm in either way cuz it'll be fun either way but picking favorite bands/artists instead of songs is like picking directors instead of movies for the last one, which would have been less fun, imo. Some lesser-known bands you and I love might not mean shit to anyone else but posting one great song from an unknown band might be the one rec that gives someone a new favorite band, or at least hours of enjoyment in the future.

Maybe someone will pick a song from the same band more than once, but for the most part, it'll sorta be like picking bands, anyway. However, if I pick what I think is the best Opeth song, you can still pick what YOU think is the best Opeth song if you want, and the others decide who is right. Or the others decide they just hate Opeth. We'll see. I think if we went with songs (with an optional youtube video posted with it), we could get really creative with this. Perhaps a poll is in order?

I can see your point but then to me, the idea of picking bands is.. you might want Black Sabbath on your list but then someone else grabs it before you, like someone else picked your favourite movie in the horror draft. To think you can still have Black Sabbath but just pick a different song doesn't make that part of the poll seem very competitive or interesting to me.

This is why I don't think it is the same as picking a director. If Alien is my favourite horror movie, I am still not going to pick Ridley Scott because the only other movie I like of his is Blade Runner and most of his other stuff which is non-horror, I couldn't really care less about. But I like pretty much all of Opeth's stuff, you will like most of Sabbath's stuff and I suspect Onyx loves pretty much all of Bowie's stuff. If someone else grabbed Bowie before her, her reaction would be "fuuuuuck!!" instead of "oh, nevermind I will just pick one of his other 100+ odd great songs.."

Yeah, so maybe let's put it to a vote as you suggest. Or, we treat this as a "trial" if you like, so we go with bands first time around, and try for songs next time.. no reason why not.

Hell thinking about it, we could actually still do one with directors, but for general movies of course, not just horror..

Yeah or as Ballz suggests, put up one YT link of the song you feel best represents them.

Sounds good to me. To expand on your idea of handling voting, perhaps when someone picks a band/artist, they should consider including a YouTube link of their favorite song or the song they feel is the best representation. It might save a little time for anyone in need of a sample song and it might be a different song than what searching "best" on YouTube could provide.

I'd play. Be aware, I am in the minority here of people who don't like rock/metal music. My tastes are broad. I like classical music too - but I don't think there will be many takers for that here

Oh I do like me a bit of Sibelius and Beethoven, I'd vote for any list with them on .
