Wrong Turn

Jan '20
Is anyone on here a fan of the Wrong Turn franchise? I thought the first one was good and then after that it went to shit. Kind of like Sharknado haha.

There are obviously better horror movies out there, but this franchise makes me enjoy watching the kills. There are always creative ways to kill a new victim. It is hard to consider most of the wrong turns after the first one "horror" because they are very self aware and understand the irony especially in the more recent ones. They understand the humor that lies within their subpare quality movies. With that being said they are extremley entertaining, and is a staple for modern gorey movies in my opinion.

I think this franchise is a fun one! It isn't really scary, but it is fun to watch all of the ridculous antics of the characters and how they die! It is also a fun drinking game, haha!

I haven't watched them in a while so I may binge watch it this weekend. They aren't very long movies, but somehow they are kind of enjoyable.
I will say that Wrong Turn 4's ending really pissed me off when I first watched it! My favorite out of all of them would have to be Wrong Turn 2: Dead End

Anyways, what are yall's input? Hate it or love it?

I think the first one is a solid and gory slasher film in an era when slasher films were going downhill and getting too self-aware. Plus, it has a great cast. Eliza Dushku is always sexy (where's she been lately?), Jeremy Sisto has been in some great things, and Desmond Harrington was in Dexter, one of the best shows ever. Just thinking about it makes me want to watch this inbred hillbilly nonsense.

But after that, they get progressively worse. 2 was okay, 3 was really bad, 4 was mixed, 5 had Doug Bradley (Pinhead) in a mostly worthless role but somehow remained interesting because of him, and 6 was meh...

I hear a 7th is in the works, and as mediocre as this series has become, I'll still watch it, just as I continue to watch the Tremors movies. There's always something worthwhile in these movies, even if it's brief.

I dug the first one too...and only partially because I was enamored with Eliza Dushku at the time. :p It was a fun throwback. Nothing groundbreaking but pretty solid. Only ever saw the first sequel and wasn't impressed at all.

I've watched the first one. I liked it. It wasn't great, but was entraining. As for the sequels, I could never get into them. I didn't even make it through the second one. Maybe I should try again one day.

Actually I was unimpressed by the original one and found the sequel much more fun. But I'm in general not so much a fan of these demented family in a hillbilly/redneck setting movies. they rarely go all out if you know what I mean. Hatchet (2006) is an exception that one I liked. The sequel was pretty dumb however.

I liked the first one. I remember at the time when it came out it created quite a buzz. There hadn't been any backwoods horror movies in a while and it was nice to see a new one that felt like an ode to the ones from the early '80s.

I know I've seen some of the sequels but don't recall which.

I've only seen the first one. It had a few standout scenes and was generally okay, but by and large nothing that could make me recommend it over most of the ones it's obviously influenced by (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, Hunter's Blood, etc). It's been a while but I remember the effects and setting were pretty good.

As far as the cast, Harrington and Sisto were good but the two female leads were terrible. Before this movie I only knew of Eliza Dushku from True Lies and she was pretty much a little girl then. In recent years she's shown herself to be a pretty unlikeable person (joining the MeToo movement and falsely accusing Michael Weatherly of some sort of fake sexual abuse, for one thing). The other girl's name I can't even remember, and she was barely memorable.
