2023 Oscars

Mar '23
What a fucking joke. That movie Everything Everywhere All at Once won all the big awards. It was okay at best, but still a convoluted mess of a movie. They only gave it awards because it had Asians and gay people. They really didn't have anything better than that last year?!

I hope someone got slapped.

I admire the dedication.

But yeah people are really overusing the term "woke" these days. On MovieChat you can find a thread called "woke garbage!!1" on nearly every recent movie's board. Basically every movie that includes minorities no matter how insignificant the parts.

I never understood this whole recent (well since the last couple of decades in the west) idea of
woke/intelligent = bad
stupid, brainwashed = good

Maybe Im just oldfashioned

edit: - Its not the first time this happened in the world, decades ago in cambodia, wearing glasses and appearing to be educated was enuf to get you killed.
Is this really a path you want your society going down?

Fuck there are non woke societies in the world, saudi arabia, afghanistan etc

woke countries, iceland, nz, netherlands etc
non woke countries - afghanistan, saudi arabia, china etc

I just can not fathom why on earth one would want to go down the non-woke country path, I value freedom to much I guess

fight the true enemy, the rich accumulating more wealth

Woke doesn't equate to intelligent. Woke is when people fixate on perceived "social injustice" and push it into being an issue. Much like how racism was finally minified in the states until liberals got bored and started making it an issue again.

This is a valid point. "Wokeness" is actually creating a bigger problem with racism than solving it. i.e. if you keep casting black people in traditionally white roles (Disney being one of the main offenders), it is just going to add fuel to the fire of racists or start to create feelings of resentment in people that might not even have racist views in the first place. Instead Hollywood should be focusing on creating better original characters and roles for black actors and actresses, which I guess at least directors like Jordan Peele are trying to do.

The problem here is that you're using the term "woke" as if it's an admirable thing to be. Yes, it seems like it's something to strive for, but most people bragging about being woke are absolute twats who like to advocate equality by stepping on the people who actually believe in equality.

Said twats are the type who bring about dumbass legislation to give preferential treatment to minorities, like trans bathrooms, banning words that offend snowflakes, and complaining about their gender identities or some such bullshit.

Countries like China and Afghan aren't inherently non-woke/ignorant. They're run by dictators who like to censor freedom of thought and expression. They couldn't be open-minded even if they wanted to be.

What bothers me most is the erasing of masculinity due to toxic masculinity and the erasing of traditional feminity. Yes, I believe there's such a thing as toxic masculinity but Hollywood has gone overboard turning most males into weak indecisive cucks and the women into masculine roles. Disney Marvel/Star Wars is the chief offender of this. Have you seen the trailer for Ghosted? I don't wanna see a 5'2 110 pound Anna de Armas beat up 200 pound men 3 at a time protecting a bitch-made Chris Evans. I've seen this film at least 5 times the past 5 years. Most women want to see masculine men in film also, they don't want to watch this crap either. Hollywood's forced gender reversal is tired.

Dude its a film, you are free not to watch it.

And more importantly its fantasy, film is not meant to be real (docos excepted)
hell go back and watch a 40s war film , the hero is being shot at by 100s of ppl and the best they can do is a slight graze (which doesnt hurt, until the heroine cleans the wound then he gos oww)
Cinema is fantasy, do you apply the same standard to the white male action star thats just wiped out 30 bad dudes in the film and drinks a coffee afterwards? No you don't cause thats the expected narative, even though its equally as rediculous

why watch a film that upsets you 5x, FFS man thats nuts, the last film I rewatched multiple times was Descent (2005) because it was brilliant not cause it fuckin annoyed me, its not the 70s and we are lacking of choices of what to watch

You make some good points Zed. I don't have a problem with films with strong female characters when done right. I love The Descent and rewatch it just about every October, think Neil Marshall is a great director. Also love Sigorney Weaver in Alien franchise, Linda Hamilton in Terminator films and Uma Thurman in Kill Bill but it's undeniable the trend Hollywood has taken lately in de-masculatng males in film of late imo. And you're right I don't have to watch, I usually see a trailer I think is rubbish propaganda and say PASS!

cheers mate

Neil marshall just totally lost it, squandered all his cred over the last decade
I did see the film everywhere all the shit at once, I thought it was OK I rated 7/10 (certainly not the best film of 2022 which I saw,
just looked on IMDB best I rated was

Piggy (2022) // rated fair & not because Im in spain and can relate.

what is masculinity? (speeling), goin around shooting ppl because of a grievience, whats the fuck masculine about this its just bad, yet for some reason we gloify this in film. Btw I will return in may to ukraine front lines (not happy) but hey its a good way to lose weight

I was thinking the other day, imagine if Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings were being cast today. You'd get something like The Rings of Power where all the male roles were subverted and all the female roles empowered, i.e. either Frodo or Sam would have to be gay, Gimli the dwarf would have to be black, Legolas would have be a kick-ass female elf, Aragorn would have be significantly weaker and less "masculine" and any female character bumped above him in importance. That is literally where we are at.

Read the books in high school, saw the P.J. films in cinemas, the 1st 2 on opening night...that being said I'm not a superfan. I didn't even try bothering with The Rings of Power. I saw what was coming from a mile away.

mate you cant even pronounce twat correctly, so dont write it (checks self, maybe me also come to think of it), is it ot or at (I will pronounce it the richie way ... its pronounces twwwwwwwwait)

Mate I ask you who is actually doing the banning, the book bannings etc, is it the woke libefools or the unwoke repedolcans, i.e. who are the snowflakes?

I have not been to afghanistan, but I've been to china, nice place to visit but trust nothing.
Freedom is cool, you know US is one of the least free western countries right?
I just came back from a park with my child, drunk from a box of wine (1.15 euro per liter, yes I brought the good stuff, none of this sub euro nonsense), I've been toi the US maybe 3 or 4 times, I can't really do this safely without running a arrest risk (varies in state and area). One has to hide it, like a criminal. I fucking love the US (like more than china etc, hell Im part yank myself, my grandfather was an american GI from WW2 no idea anything more like which state etc, as it was like a family scandal, and my grandma is long dead anyways ... she died in townsville OZ, I can rememebr I was in that town many yearas ago and speaking to my mum, maybe phone or letter and she said visit my mum, of course now I would go back and do it, but then it was like, fuck that shit)

I ask you you 70s-hairy-eurobox, how many weeks paid holiday do you get a year?

I assume 0 or 2 weeks, did you know most civilized countries give you at least 4 weeks minimum, some give you more I remember, an ex of mine in holland had like 13 weeks (3 months paid holiday a year)
You're free in the US, but less free than most western countries, hell you only have a choice between 2 parties (which dont want the system to change) when you vote.
How is freedom of voting choice?, when the choice is between 2 parties

well yes techincally it is, but really, its fuck all of a choice, like here in spain there is X number of parties thus a voter can choose a party that speaks to them. Of course these parties will reneg on their promises etc, like all politics does, but they do move the governments dial somewhat in that direction.
Now this is political freedom, the multichoice and it it actually mattering

what are you talking about, I assume you mean the liberals are rewriting the dahl books recent kefafall? SP

You realize that was all manufactured right? Ban the book = more sales (remember the last time this happened, dr suess dominated the sales charts) & as big bonus we can renew the copywite for another X number of years because now its a differnt book

https://www.republicworld.com/world-news/us-news/dr-seuss-books-top-us-bestseller-charts-as-company-pulls-6-titles-over-racist-portrayals.html

they have been doing this shit forever, mate, vincert you must remember the, Group X wants to ban film Y pickets outside theatres (which only led to more people to watch the film)
dont fall for marketting, dont give those marketting cunts the oxyegen, just move on vin

That's funny, yesterday at Costco I was thinking about buying a Roald Dahl collection. The copyright date was from a year ago, so I thought maybe this might be my last chance to get these things uncut.

But then I realized I had no interest in reading a bunch of kids books!
